gifts. bigad shaban joins us live now with the latest. >> reporter: it's a quiet but eerie scene here with the mall park lot and surrounding entrances closed off by police as part of their ongoing investigation. but it was inside where that masked gunman shot off several dozen rounds yesterday right after yelling to the crowd, quote, i am the shooter. >>> reporter: mourners showed up overnight with the first flowers in remembrance of the two people killed at a mall near portland, oregon. >> this event touched us deeply. >> reporter: this cell phone video shows what it was like in the moments after the shooting as police escorted shoppers to safety. >> it was scary. it was shocking. >> our cousin is a security guard in there. and his wife and baby were in there, but they got out okay. >> reporter: police arrived within minutes searching for the gunman in a crowd of thousands. >> police went armed and yelling at to us close the gate so we closed the gate. >> they escorted us out, keep low, children first, the whole standard procedure. >> reporter: authorities said when they found t

danielle nottingham joins us live from d.c. where the house is set to reconvene in just about an hour. good morning. >>> reporter: vice president joe biden is in on the negotiations. mitch mcconnell asked him to help out after talks stalled. with hours to go it's hard to tell if lawmakers will be able to agree to a watered down deal. lawmakers left the capital sunday night without a deal in place. but leaders from both parties expressed their willingness to continue working. >> there's still significant difference between the two sides but negotiations continue. >> he want everyone to know i'm willing to get it done but i need a dance partner. >> reporter: some progress was made sunday when republicans dropped a proposal to slow social security growth but the main sticking point between democrats and republicans continues to be over the threshold of tax increases. president obama campaigned on raising taxes on income over $250,000. while many congressional republicans have pushed back against any tax increases. president obama is placing the blame for the impasse on the gop. >> they say tha

. >>> a large brawl in a sacramento mall sent shoppers running for the doors. reporter lonnie rivera shows us what shoppers saw and heard when the fight broke out and why many thought something worse was happening. evidence at this hour. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran tells us the sacramento street is shut down right now. cate. >> reporter: frank, michelle, that's right. if you can take a looker the crime tape is up here in this area. officers are still on scene gathering evidence and they have been here for quite some time. we do have video of when they first got on scene though. berkeley police tell us they got a caught around 11:30 last night and officers found a cyclist by longfellow middle school just off derby street. he fell off his bike along the sidewalk and he had at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead on scene. if you come back out live the award and sacramento streets, that crime tape is still up. there are several police officers here -- not officers, but rather cars here on scene continuing their investigation. and we want to make note that officers have not released a suspect description at this time. and they still don't have a motive for the shooting. reporting live in berkeley, cate caugiran, cbs 5. >>> one person in critical condition, two others serious after a shooting
